Andrada Feșnic, Fractured Realities

Estopia Art Gallery is pleased to invite you, on September 12^th, 2019, at 6.00 PM, at the opening of its new gallery venue at Palazzo Elvezia, Corso Elvezia 9/a in Lugano. The inaugural exhibition, Fractured Realities II, will showcase Andrada Feșnic, one of the most promising young Romanian artists, with an impressive start and a highly original technique, based on figurative decomposition and cut-outs and a spectacular collage effect obtained by exclusively painterly means.

While experimenting at the crossroads of the neo-figurative trend set by the School of Cluj, where she comes from – one of the most successful art communities in SE Europe – and her own artistic path, Andrada Feșnic builds in her new works a fascinating reality that escapes any attempt of unilateral interpretation: an irresistible labyrinth of overlapping realities unveils under the eyes of the viewer, who, the more accepts the game of unfolding layer after layer, the more will be hypnotized by the endless game of perspectives.

Electric transparencies, explosive chromatic experiments and the incontestable evidence that the artist masters perfectly her own invented technique: Andrada Feșnic is an artist who promises to occupy a well-defined place on the international art scene in the coming years.

Founded by Claudio Scorretti and Irina Ungureanu at the beginning of 2019 Estopia opened its first gallery space in January 2019 in Bucharest, Romania, as an international art space focused on promoting young and emerging artists from Eastern Europe. With the addition of Edwin Hughes Scorretti and Michelle D’Ancona, the gallery decided to open a second space in Lugano, Switzerland. A third venue in Berlin is planned for 2020, aiming to set forth a dynamic platform of dialogue between artists coming from the East and the international art market. Estopia focuses both on scouting young and emerging artists, while bringing to foreground the most up-to-date topics coming from the East in the art field. Andrada Feșnic was born in 1987 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where she lives and works.

She studied Painting at the University of Art and Design in Cluj-Napoca, where she earned her BA in 2016 and her MA in 2018. In 2015 she won a scholarship at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. The art-makers community Centrul de Interes in Cluj‑Napoca housed the artist’s solo exhibition Aftermath in 2018, in A+ Project Space. She presented her works in a series of group shows and international projects, including Performing the Unconscious, Freud Museum, London, 2015, during her scholarship at the University of the Arts London. In 2019 she presented her solo show, Fractured Realities, with Estopia Art Gallery in Bucharest.
